Simmons, who passed away on July 13, just one day after celebrating his 76th birthday, was found unresponsive in his home in Los Angeles. Reports indicate that he had fallen in his bathroom the night before but chose not to seek medical attention, as advised by his housekeeper. He was discovered the following morning next to his bed.

Family’s Tribute and Public Support

In the wake of his death, Simmons’ family has expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support. Lenny Simmons, Richard’s brother, shared a tribute, urging people to remember Richard for the joy and love he brought into their lives. “Celebrate his life,” Lenny Simmons said. “He truly cared about people and was excited about his upcoming ventures.”

Ongoing Investigation and Official Findings

While the official coroner’s report is not yet available, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office had previously listed Simmons’ death as under investigation. The case remains open as additional testing is conducted. Despite this, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that there was no foul play involved in his death.

Simmons’ longtime caretaker, Teresa Reveles, found him on the morning of his death and described him as looking peaceful, though his hands were clenched into fists, a sign she associated with a heart attack. Reveles also noted that Simmons had been experiencing leg pain from a recent fall.
