India’s impressive run at the Paris Paralympics continued with a remarkable performance by shooter Rubina Francis, who clinched the bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol (SH1) event on August 31. Francis scored 211.1 points in the final, adding to India’s growing medal tally.

India’s Medal Count Expands to Five

With four medals won on the second day of the Paralympics, India’s medal tally now stands at five. The nation has earned one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals thus far. Iranian shooter Javanmardi Sareh won gold with a score of 236.8 points, while Turkey’s Ozgan Aysel took the silver with 231.1 points. Despite holding second place at one point, Rubina Francis ultimately finished in bronze.

About Rubina Francis

Rubina Francis, a para pistol shooter from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, has been a prominent figure in the shooting sports arena. At the World Shooting Para Sports World Cup 2023, she won a silver medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event. In 2017, she set a junior world record by winning gold in the 10m Air Pistol Women’s Team event at the World Shooting Para Sports Championship in Bangkok. Additionally, she earned a bronze medal at the 2019 World Para Championship in Croatia. At 25 years old, Rubina faces challenges due to rickets, a condition affecting bone development, which results in 40 percent disability in her legs. Despite these obstacles, she trains at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy.
