Congress MP Highlights Crisis and Calls for Support
In a recent message on his WhatsApp channel, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed deep concern over the alarming increase in student suicides in India. He emphasized the need for government intervention to address the growing crisis.
Rising Suicide Rates Among Youth
Gandhi highlighted a distressing trend: “In the last decade, while the population of children aged 0-24 decreased slightly from 58.20 crores to 58.10 crores, the number of student suicides shockingly surged from 6,654 to 13,044.” This stark increase reflects serious underlying issues affecting the younger generation.
Challenges Faced by Students
During his address, Gandhi pointed out the severe challenges faced by today’s students, including high unemployment rates, paper leaks, corruption in education, and economic disparity. He criticized both state and central governments for failing to address these pressing issues effectively.
Call for Government and Parental Support
Gandhi called on the government to create plans to ease the difficulties faced by students and youth, urging them to remove obstacles and provide support. He also appealed to parents and guardians to offer mental support and encouragement to their children. Additionally, he encouraged young people to voice their concerns, demand their rights, and not be intimidated by the challenges they face.
Commitment to Advocacy
“I stand with you and will keep fighting from the streets to Parliament to secure your rights,” Gandhi asserted, reaffirming his commitment to advocating for the youth’s needs and rights on multiple fronts.
