James Earl Jones was one of the few performers to achieve the prestigious EGOT status, signifying wins in all four major American entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. He first won a Tony Award in 1969 for his role in The Great White Hope, followed by a Grammy in 1977 for Best Spoken Word Recording. In 1987, he won another Tony for “Fences.” His Emmy Awards came in 1991 for “Gabriel’s Fire” and “Heat Wave.
