Quinn Ewers Injured Arch Manning Steps Up for Longhorns

Longhorns Quarterback Quinn Ewers Injured in First Half of Game Against UTSA

Steve Sarkisian Provides Update on Ewers’ Injury; Arch Manning Steps Up

During halftime of the game between the University of Texas and UTSA on Saturday night, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian shared news about quarterback Quinn Ewers’ injury. As the teams went to the locker rooms at DKR-Memorial Stadium, Sarkisian informed ESPN sideline reporter Quinn Kessenich that Ewers had a strained abdomen. Ewers, who was seen in street clothes on the sideline late in the second quarter, would not return to the game.

The injury occurred early in the second quarter during a play where Ewers handed off the ball to Quintrevion Wisner. Ewers then limped off the field, went down, and called for the trainer. Surprisingly, he wasn’t touched during the play, leading to speculation that the injury might have happened on a previous play when he connected with tight end Gunnar Helm for a 49-yard catch-and-run.

After leaving the field, Ewers went to the injury tent and then to the locker room with 10:01 left in the first half. Although he was walking on his own, he did so very carefully with the help of Longhorns staff. Ewers had completed 14 out of 16 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception before his departure.

On the sidelines, Ewers was seen pointing to the left side of his ribs and asked teammates and staff to keep their distance from the area.

With Ewers out, freshman quarterback Arch Manning took over. Manning made an immediate impact by throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Johntay Cook II on his first play. Later, Manning ran for a 67-yard touchdown on a designed keeper.

At halftime, Manning had completed 3 of 5 passes for 25 yards and the touchdown to Cook II. He also had 53 rushing yards, including one sack.
