Last year, Munn faced a significant health challenge when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following multiple surgeries and treatments, she made the difficult decision to undergo a hysterectomy and an oophorectomy to eliminate hormones that could lead to a recurrence of the disease. This choice, while necessary, meant she could no longer carry future children herself.

In her heartfelt Instagram post, Munn reflected on the emotional weight of this experience. “I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” she wrote. Meeting their gestational surrogate was a pivotal moment for her; she described the connection as “mother to mother,” noting the grace and understanding they shared. Munn expressed immense gratitude for the surrogate, calling her “a real-life angel.”

Munn shared that Méi, pronounced “may,” means “plum” in Chinese. She described her daughter as “my little plum, my little dragon,” and expressed pride in her journey into the world. “Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for nine months and made our dreams come true,” Munn said, adding, “My heart has exploded.”
