New Era for Indian Cricket: Morne Morkel Joins as Bowling Coach

Gautam Gambhir Appoints Morne Morkel as Indian Team’s New Bowling Coach

Former South African Fast Bowler to Begin Role on September 1 .In a significant shake-up of the Indian cricket team’s coaching staff, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the new bowling coach. This announcement comes as part of the new head coach Gautam Gambhir’s strategy to bring fresh perspectives to the team.

Morkel Replaces Paras Mhambrey

Morkel, who is set to commence his role on September 1, will take over from Paras Mhambrey, who served as the bowling coach during Rahul Dravid’s tenure. Morkel’s first assignment will be the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting September 19.

Gambhir and Morkel’s Previous Collaboration

Gambhir’s choice of Morkel is influenced by their successful previous collaborations. Both have worked together with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and spent three seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Their proven synergy is expected to benefit the Indian bowling unit.

BCCI’s New Direction

This appointment marks a departure from the BCCI’s recent practice of exclusively appointing Indian coaches, as Morkel becomes the first foreign coach in the Indian setup since Duncan Fletcher.

Morkel’s Coaching Experience

Morkel brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He previously coached the Pakistan team during the ODI World Cup last year, though his tenure ended before the contract’s completion. Despite Pakistan’s disappointing World Cup performance under his guidance, Morkel’s expertise in coaching IPL franchises adds to his credentials. As Morne Morkel steps into his new role, the Indian cricket team anticipates a rejuvenated approach to their bowling strategies, aiming for success in their upcoming series and beyond.
