Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh Accuses Congress of Manipulating Wrestlers’ Movement
Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has leveled serious accusations against the Congress party, alleging that the recent wrestlers’ protest was orchestrated as a political conspiracy. Singh’s comments come amidst the ongoing controversy involving prominent wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, who have recently entered the political arena.
Congress Allegedly Behind Jantar Mantar Protest
In a statement to Indian media, Singh asserted, “When the protest at Jantar Mantar began on January 18, 2023, I had predicted that it was not a genuine movement by the players but a political maneuver orchestrated by Congress. Notably, Bhupendra Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Priyanka Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi were involved. It is now evident that this entire protest was a conspiracy led by Bhupendra Hooda.”
Singh Denies Wrongdoing and Blames Congress
Singh vehemently denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I want to make it clear to the people of Haryana that neither Bhupendra Hooda, Deepender Hooda, Bajrang Punia, nor Vinesh Phogat were involved in the fight for women’s dignity. Instead, they have caused embarrassment to the daughters of Haryana. The responsibility for this disgrace lies with Bhupendra Hooda and the protesters.”
Accusations of Exploitation and Defamation
Singh further criticized the wrestlers and their political backers, saying, “These individuals used female athletes as political tools, defaming them in the process. Their actions were driven by political motives rather than a genuine concern for women’s honor. If anyone is guilty of dishonoring women, it is Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat. Bhupendra Hooda scripted this entire scenario.”
Future Implications
Singh’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between the former WFI chief and the wrestlers, who have now aligned themselves with political parties. As the situation continues to unfold, the allegations of conspiracy and political exploitation are likely to dominate the discourse surrounding the protest and its implications.
