Ken Page, a towering figure in the world of musical theater, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 1, 2024, at the age of 70. Known for his remarkable talent and unforgettable performances, Page’s death has sent shockwaves through the Broadway community.

Born on January 20, 1954, in St. Louis, Missouri, Ken Page made his Broadway debut in the groundbreaking musical “The Wiz” (1975), where he originated the role of the Lion. His career blossomed with pivotal roles, including Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the 1976 revival of “Guys and Dolls,” and Old Deuteronomy in “Cats” (1982). His performances in “Ain’t Misbehavin'” (1978 & 1988) showcased his extraordinary vocal talent and stage presence.

Page’s work extended beyond Broadway; he had an impactful career in off-Broadway and regional theater, notably at the Muny-St. Louis. He was also known for his well-received cabaret show, “Page by Page,” and later ventured into directing.

A Multifaceted Talent

In addition to his stage work, Ken Page appeared in films such as “Torch Song Trilogy (1988) and “Dreamgirls” (2006). He lent his distinctive voice to beloved animated characters, including King Gator in “All Dogs Go to Heaven” (1989) and Oogie Boogie in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993).

On television, Page made his debut alongside Nell Carter in “Gimme a Break!” (1984) and appeared in series like “Family Matters,” “Touched by an Angel,” and “Adventures in Wonderland,” where he played the Walrus.
