BYU Stuns Oklahoma State with Last-Minute Heroics A 38-35 Thriller

BYU Stuns Oklahoma State with Last-Minute Heroics A 38-35 Thriller

In an electrifying matchup in Provo, Utah, the No. 13 BYU Cougars pulled off a remarkable comeback against Oklahoma State, winning 38-35 in the final moments of the game. With just 19 seconds remaining, BYU faced a crucial first-and-10 from the Cowboys’ 35-yard line.

Retzlaff Delivers Under Pressure

Quarterback Jake Retzlaff showcased his poise and skill as he connected with Darius Lassiter for a stunning 35-yard touchdown pass, sealing the victory with only 10 seconds on the clock. Lassiter’s quick slant route and ability to evade multiple defenders highlighted BYU’s offensive prowess, bringing their record to 7-0 (4-0 Big 12).

The drama unfolded after Oklahoma State took a 35-31 lead with just over a minute left, thanks to a six-yard touchdown pass from veteran quarterback Alan Bowman to Brennan Presley. The Cowboys, who were expected to contend for the Big 12 Championship, are now facing a tough stretch, having lost four straight conference games.

As the clock wound down, BYU found themselves in a precarious position, needing a fourth-and-7 conversion on their own 28-yard line. Retzlaff’s 27-yard scramble set the stage for the game-winning touchdown, illustrating his dual-threat capability and determination to lead his team to victory.

Running back LJ Martin also played a pivotal role, carrying the ball 20 times for 120 yards and two touchdowns, complementing BYU’s offensive attack and providing balance to the game plan.

A Shared Spotlight in the Big 12

With this victory, BYU now shares the top of the Big 12 standings with No. 12 Iowa State (6-0, 3-0), both teams firmly in the conversation for the College Football Playoff. The Cougars, who nearly upset Oklahoma State last season in a double-overtime thriller, have turned the tables this time, delivering a memorable win in front of their home crowd.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on BYU as they continue their quest for a potential playoff berth, while Oklahoma State looks to regroup and find their footing in the competitive landscape of college football.
