CBI to Conduct Polygraph Test on Kolkata Rape-Murder Accused Amidst Suspicions of Self-Inflicted Injuries

Tensions Mount as CBI Investigates Injuries on Kolkata Rape-Murder Suspect

Sanjay Roy’s Claims of Self-Harm Contradict Evidence; Polygraph Test Delayed Due to Technical Issue

August 25  Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the brutal rape and murder case of a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is currently in CBI custody. The investigation, now overseen by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has revealed significant complications, including doubts about injury marks found on Roy’s body.

The CBI was scheduled to conduct a polygraph test on Roy today, but technical issues have delayed the procedure. The test is expected to be rescheduled for later today at the Presidency Correctional Home, where Roy is being held. This follows the completion of polygraph tests for six other suspects on Saturday.

Suspected Injuries Raise Questions

According to CBI sources, Roy has visible cuts on both arms and an external injury on his right hip. These injuries, discovered when Roy was taken into custody on August 14, are suspected to have occurred during a struggle with the victim. The CBI official indicated that Roy’s explanation that he inflicted these injuries on himself lacks credibility, as he failed to provide a clear motive for self-harm. The official stated, “We believe these injuries are consistent with a struggle by the victim to resist the assault.”

Accused Claims Innocence

Despite previous claims by the Kolkata Police that Roy confessed to the crime, Roy has consistently maintained his innocence. He asserts that he is being framed and has requested the polygraph test as a means to prove his innocence. During his appearance before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Sealdah, Roy reiterated his denial of involvement in the crime.

Discrepancies in Statements

Both the Kolkata Police and the CBI have identified several inconsistencies in Roy’s statements. Investigators have pointed out discrepancies that Roy has been unable to clarify during interrogation, raising further concerns about his credibility.

Security Measures in Place

Roy is being held in cell number 21 under stringent security measures. He is isolated in his cell, which is monitored by CCTV cameras. Despite his claims of ignorance regarding the crime, jail officials have reported that Roy continues to assert his innocence to security personnel.

As the investigation progresses, the CBI remains focused on resolving the contradictions and gathering conclusive evidence to address the serious allegations against Sanjay Roy.
