In a dramatic turn of events at the Singapore Grand Prix, Red Bull Racing (RB) has hinted that Daniel Ricciardo may have driven his final race for the team. The Australian driver, who finished 18th, was pitted late in the race to secure the fastest lap a move seen as a symbolic farewell as he prepares to be replaced by reserve driver Liam Lawson at the sister team, AlphaTauri.
Ricciardo’s fastest lap not only provided him a moment of glory but also strategically benefitted Red Bull in the championship race, taking a crucial point away from Lando Norris and McLaren. Team principal Laurent Mekies acknowledged the situation in the post-race press release, stating that Singapore “may have been Daniel’s last race.” He elaborated on the need for a Safety Car to bring Ricciardo back into contention for points, highlighting his aggressive strategy and determination throughout the race.
After the race, Ricciardo appeared contemplative about his future in Formula 1. When asked if this could be his last Grand Prix, he candidly responded, “Possibly, I have to acknowledge that.” The 35-year-old reflected on the ups and downs of his career, expressing a sense of peace with the possibility of closure. “I think also, I tried to get back into Red Bull, it didn’t work out, so then I have to say, ‘Okay, what else am I ultimately doing here?’” he said, emphasizing the challenge of competing at a high level after years of success.
Ricciardo concluded by reminiscing about his journey in F1. “I’m proud of what I’ve achieved over the last fourteen years. When you’ve experienced the highs of winning, you can only fight for P10 for so long. That feeling is unparalleled, and if it’s becoming harder to reach those heights, that’s the truth. Maybe that’s being 35, or maybe the competition is getting better and better.”As Ricciardo prepares for what could be the next chapter of his career, fans and fellow drivers alike will be left to reflect on a remarkable journey filled with unforgettable moments.
