The natural calamity struck on July 30, claiming hundreds of lives and causing widespread destruction.

Film Industry Rallies for Relief

The disaster has prompted significant contributions from across the Indian film industry. Tamil actors like Vijay and Nayanthara, director Vignesh Shivan, as well as Telugu stars Prabhas, Allu Arjun, Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and Rashmika Mandanna, and Malayalam icons Mammootty and Mohanlal have all extended their support. Notably, Mohanlal traveled to Wayanad to assist with the relief efforts.

Details of the Tragedy

Incessant rains led to severe landslides in Mundaki, Choorlamala, and Vellarimala villages, with three massive landslides hitting Meppadi on July 30. The response has been swift, with the army, police, fire department, and dedicated volunteers working tirelessly. The Indian Army constructed a 190-foot bridge in just 71 hours to facilitate critical movement. Medical staff have been deployed to provide aid and treatment.

Celebrities’ Urgent Call for Assistance

Following the disaster, celebrities have expressed their grief and urged the public to contribute to relief efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Chooralmala area on August 10, conducting an aerial survey and visiting relief camps and hospitals. The state government is advocating for the central government to classify the landslide as Level 3 of the National Disaster Management Plan to secure additional support for rebuilding and rehabilitation.

Dhanush’s Current Projects

Recently, Dhanush appeared in “Raayan,” his 50th film as an actor and his second as a director, which received mixed reviews. He is set to star in Sekhar Kammula’s “Kuber,” alongside Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, and Jim Sarbh. Dhanush is also directing “Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam,” although the project has faced delays. He encountered controversy when the Tamil Film Producers Council temporarily banned him for not completing a film, but the Nadigar Sangam has supported him.
