Today, Diwali is being celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, marking a joyous occasion filled with light, hope, and togetherness. Leaders and diplomats from around the globe have extended their warm wishes for Diwali to the people of India, showcasing the festival’s significance beyond borders.
In a spectacular display of solidarity, the Empire State Building in New York was lit up in orange to celebrate Diwali. The iconic structure, adorned with greetings, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. The Consulate General of India in New York noted that these glittering lights embody this very message.
Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov joined in the festivities by extending Diwali greetings in Hindi, while Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz expressed his wishes for a prosperous festival. He conveyed to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, “I wish you and the people of India a very happy Diwali 2024. Israel and India share the values of democracy, freedom, and a vision for a bright future. May this festival of light bring happiness, prosperity, and peace to all of us.”
As homes across India glow with lights, the festival is also being celebrated abroad. However, the air quality in the national capital remains a concern, continuing to deteriorate and falling into the ‘very poor’ category. Experts anticipate it may worsen to ‘severe’ levels due to the bursting of firecrackers at night.
In Indian-controlled Kashmir, paramilitary soldiers stood guard as celebrations took place, ensuring safety during the festivities.
Heartfelt Wishes from the US
US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, shared heartfelt messages on social media to mark the festival. He emphasized the joy and blessings that Diwali brings, stating, “This Diwali, Indians and Americans at Mission India are sharing these diyas that bring joy and blessings to all. Join the festivities with us to celebrate the festival of lights with music, dance, festive joy, and a heart full of gratitude. On behalf of the US Mission in India, I wish everyone a very Happy Diwali.”
As the festival of lights brightens homes and hearts, it also strengthens bonds between nations, reflecting the universal values of peace, prosperity, and unity.
