In a disappointing turn of events for the New England Patriots, rookie quarterback Drake Maye has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets due to a head injury. The third overall pick from the 2023 NFL Draft was making only his third career start when he suffered the injury in the first quarter.

Maye was showing promise early on, demonstrating both his mobility and passing ability. While running downfield, he was struck in the back of the helmet by Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood. The hit prompted immediate medical attention, with Maye being taken into the medical tent for evaluation.

Despite initial hopes for a quick return, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed at halftime that Maye would not return to the game. He is now expected to be evaluated for a concussion.

Before exiting the game, Maye showcased his dual-threat capability. He executed a remarkable 17-yard touchdown run and completed a 40-yard pass while on the run, although it was unfortunately dropped by the receiver. By the time of his departure, he had completed 3 of 6 passes for 23 yards and rushed for 46 yards on three carries.

With Maye sidelined, veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett will lead the Patriots for the remainder of the Week 8 matchup. Brissett, who has extensive experience in the league, will aim to keep the Patriots competitive against their division rivals.

As the Patriots navigate this setback, all eyes will be on Maye’s recovery and Brissett’s performance moving forward. Stay tuned for updates on Maye’s health and the ongoing developments in this critical AFC East clash.
