Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday night following a traffic incident that led to multiple charges. Cutler, 41, faces allegations of DUI (first offense), illegal possession of a firearm while under the influence, implied consent violations, and failure to exercise due care.
Police reports indicate that Cutler rear-ended another vehicle around 5 p.m. local time. Officers responding to the scene detected a strong odor of alcohol and noted that Cutler was slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes. When asked to perform field sobriety tests, Cutler declined. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where a blood sample was taken under a search warrant.
During the investigation, Franklin Police discovered two firearms in Cutler’s vehicle, one of which was a loaded pistol. Cutler was later released on a $5,000 bond.
Jay Cutler had a notable 12-season career in the NFL, playing for the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins, and Denver Broncos after being drafted in 2006. He became widely recognized for his strong arm and competitive spirit on the field.
In his personal life, Cutler was married to reality TV star Kristin Cavallari in 2013, with whom he shares three children: Camden, 11, Jaxon, 9, and Saylor, 8. The couple, who met in 2010, divorced in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Cavallari’s divorce filing highlighted “inappropriate marital conduct” on Cutler’s part, emphasizing a turbulent relationship.
