Actor Nagarjuna's N Convention Centre Faces Demolition Amid Encroachment Dispute"

Hyderabad Demolishes Actor Nagarjuna’s N Convention Centre Over Encroachment Allegations

Hyderabad, August 24, 2024 -The demolition of the N Convention Centre, owned by veteran actor Nagarjuna Akkineni, has commenced due to allegations of encroachment on public land. The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HYDRA) has ordered the action following claims that the centre was illegally built on land that encroaches upon the Tummidikunta lake.

Prolonged Investigation into Land Encroachment

The N Convention Centre, located on a 10-acre plot, has been under investigation for several years. Reports indicate that the centre’s construction infringed upon the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and the buffer zone of Tummidikunta lake in the Madhapur area. According to the Executive Engineer of the North Tank Division, the lake’s FTL area spans approximately 29.24 acres. It is alleged that the convention centre has encroached on about 1.12 acres of this area and an additional 2 acres within the buffer zone.

Road Closures and Security Measures

In response to the demolition, all roads leading to the N Convention Centre have been closed, and access to the site has been restricted. Police personnel have been deployed to oversee the operation, which began early on Friday morning as part of a broader drive to remove illegal constructions impacting public lands and water bodies.

Nagarjuna Responds to Demolition

Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni has expressed his distress over the demolition, asserting that it was conducted unlawfully, against existing stay orders, and without prior notice. He contends that the land in question is private and does not encroach upon any lake area. Nagarjuna has announced plans to seek legal redress regarding the authorities’ actions.

Broader Efforts for Public Land Restoration

The demolition of the N Convention Centre is part of HYDRA’s ongoing efforts to restore public lands and protect Hyderabad’s water bodies from illegal encroachments. As a prominent venue for various events, including weddings and corporate functions, the closure of the N Convention Centre marks a significant development in Hyderabad’s urban management and environmental conservation efforts.
