Tomiko Itooka Celebrates Milestone Birthday Amidst Remarkable Life Achievements
Asia City, Japan – Tomiko Itooka, a resident of the western Japanese city of Asia, has made headlines worldwide as the world’s oldest living person at the age of 116. This significant milestone comes following the passing of 117-year-old Spanish woman Maria Branyas.
A Life Spanning Over a Century
Born on May 23, 1908, Tomiko Itooka is the eldest daughter in her family, with two siblings. She married at the age of 20 and went on to have two daughters and two sons. During her husband’s life, she managed their textile factory in South Korea, demonstrating remarkable resilience and adaptability. After her husband’s death in 1979, Itooka relocated to western Japan and embraced a new passion for mountaineering.
A Trailblazing Adventurer
At 70, Itooka achieved an extraordinary feat by climbing Mount Ontake in Japan wearing only regular sneakers. She has conquered the summit of this mountain twice in her lifetime. At 100, she ascended the long stone steps of the Ashiya pilgrimage center unaided, showcasing her exceptional physical endurance.
Recent Years and Retirement
In 2019, Itooka moved into a nursing home and has since been confined to a wheelchair. Despite these challenges, her extraordinary longevity and adventurous spirit continue to inspire many.
City officials of Asia released a photo of Itooka’s 116th birthday celebration, highlighting her exceptional milestone and the remarkable life she has led.
