Remembering Wanda Smith A Cherished Voice in Atlanta’s Entertainment Landscape

Wanda Smith, a beloved figure in Atlanta’s entertainment scene and popular radio personality, has passed away at the age of 58. The news, confirmed by Rick Caffey, Senior Vice President and Market Manager of Atlanta’s V-103 radio station, came just a day after she celebrated her birthday.

A Legacy of Laughter and Connection

Caffey expressed the station’s deep sorrow in an emotional Instagram post: “Our hearts are weighing heavier today as we grieve the loss of our beloved Wanda Smith, someone who always made us smile and who was a big part of V-103 for years. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to her family.”

Wanda Smith was best known for co-hosting the “Frank and Wanda in the Morning” show on V-103, previously known as WVEE-FM. She joined the show in 1998 and remained a fixture on Atlanta airwaves for over two decades. Although she faced a brief hiatus in 2013, Smith made a triumphant return in 2014, continuing to captivate audiences alongside Ryan Cameron until her departure in 2019.

A Multifaceted Talent

Beyond her influential role in radio, Wanda was a talented comedian and writer. She contributed her humor to the iconic “Def Comedy Jam” and BET’s “Comicview,” showcasing her knack for connecting with audiences. In addition to her stand-up career, Smith held a regular weekly set at the Atlanta Comedy Theater in Norcross, where her infectious laughter and warm presence left a lasting impression.

Wanda also made notable appearances in several films, including Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail” and “Madea’s Witness Protection,” further solidifying her status as a multifaceted performer in the entertainment industry.

Smith leaves behind her husband, LaMorris Sellers, and their three children. Her legacy of joy and connection will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who knew her and those who were touched by her work.
