Tensions Rise Over Mosque Construction in Shimla Political Leaders Clash and Protests Erupt

Owaisi Joins Shimla Mosque Debate Protests and Politics Heat Up

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi Accuses Congress of Aligning with BJP, While Former CM Jairam Thakur Demands Action

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh -The political climate in Himachal Pradesh has intensified following the controversy surrounding the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli area. The dispute has sparked a heated exchange between Congress and BJP leaders, with protests erupting in the local community.

Owaisi Slams Congress for Alleged BJP Alignment

Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the Congress party for what he perceives as adopting the BJP’s rhetoric. In a social media video, Owaisi questioned, “Is the Himachal government of BJP or Congress? There is only hatred in Himachal’s ‘Mohabbat ki Dukaan’.” This statement reflects his frustration over the Congress’s handling of the mosque issue.

Former CM Thakur Calls for Immediate Action

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has labeled the construction of the mosque as “unfortunate” and has called for prompt action against the illegal building. Thakur’s remarks further fuel the ongoing debate and pressure on the state government.

Congress Minister Advocates Caution

In contrast, Congress minister Vikramaditya Singh urged for a measured approach. He stated, “Himachal has a history of taking everyone along. We have to move ahead carefully on this issue and respect everyone’s sentiments. The government will take just action under the law, and there should be no politics in the name of religion.”

Protests and Clashes Intensify

The controversy has led to significant unrest, with hundreds of local residents staging a protest against the mosque’s alleged illegal construction. Demonstrators surrounded the mosque in Sanjauli, demanding its demolition. The protest created a tense atmosphere and drew significant attention to the issue.

Dispute Origins and Current Status

The conflict began after an alleged attack by a member of the Muslim community on a local shopkeeper, which resulted in severe injuries. This incident heightened concerns about the mosque’s construction and led to further demands for legal action.

Shimla’s Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhupendra Atri revealed that while permission was granted for a single floor, the mosque now comprises four floors. Atri assured that the case is in court and that no new construction has occurred since the legal proceedings began. The Waqf Board has been included in the case, and actions will follow legal protocols.

The controversy surrounding the mosque construction has now become a significant issue in Himachal Pradesh’s political landscape, drawing criticism and scrutiny from various quarters.
