Police Pursue Leads Across States Following Facebook Confession
In a significant development in the murder case of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, police have arrested the third accused, Praveen Lonkar, from Pune. Praveen allegedly took responsibility for the murder through a Facebook post on his brother Shubham’s account. This revelation prompted a swift response from the Mumbai Police, who dispatched a team to Pune for the arrest.
Ongoing Search for Additional Suspects
Praveen Lonkar is considered one of the main conspirators in the case, which has seen a total of three arrests so far. Two suspects were apprehended immediately following the incident, while Praveen was arrested today. Meanwhile, authorities are intensifying their search for Zeeshan Akhtar, another suspect who is currently at large. Akhtar, whose real name is Mohammad Yasin Akhtar, is linked to a criminal gang of 22 members and has multiple serious charges against him, including extortion.
Criminal Background of Zeeshan Akhtar
A dossier on Zeeshan Akhtar reveals a history of violent crime, including a recent extortion case in Punjab where he allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh. When the victim, Rano, failed to comply, shots were fired at his residence. Known in criminal circles as “Zulmi,” Zeeshan has seven registered cases against him, including murder.
Details of the Murder Incident
Baba Siddiqui was tragically shot dead on Saturday night as he exited his son Zeeshan’s office in Bandra East. The assailants targeted him, inflicting critical injuries to his chest and stomach. Siddiqui was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
As the investigation continues, Mumbai Crime Branch teams are conducting raids across various states to apprehend Zeeshan and any additional suspects involved in this high-profile case.
