Tom Selleck Reflects on the End of an Era with Blue Bloods

Tom Selleck Expresses Disappointment Over CBS Cancelling “Blue Bloods”

After an impressive 14-year run, Tom Selleck, the beloved star of CBS’s crime drama “Blue Bloods,” is opening up about his disappointment following the network’s decision to cancel the series. Selleck, who has portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show’s debut in 2010, feels frustrated that such a successful program is concluding.

Ratings Success Despite Cancellation

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck reflected on the show’s strong performance, noting, “I’m kind of frustrated. During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.” He highlighted that the show ranked ninth in total viewers for the 2023-2024 season and sixth when excluding football shows. “If you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” he added.

Cherishing the Cast and Crew

When asked what he would miss most about the series, Selleck emphasized the close-knit relationships he formed with his co-stars. “The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play,” he said. “There isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back.” He praised the harmonious atmosphere on set, stating, “Most shows don’t end that way there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things but we seemed to overcome that.”

Financial Implications of the Show’s End

As “Blue Bloods” prepares to wrap up, Selleck faces financial uncertainty regarding his 63-acre ranch in Ventura County, California. In a previous interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” he admitted, “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

Despite his disappointment with the show’s cancellation, Selleck remains optimistic about his career in Hollywood. He has made it clear that he does not plan to retire and will continue to seek new opportunities in the industry.

As the curtain falls on “Blue Bloods,” Tom Selleck’s legacy will undoubtedly remain, cherished by fans and fellow actors alike. The series may be ending, but the impact it has made over the years will be long remembered.
