Celebrating Diversity Transgender Models Shine at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Makes Historic Return with Trailblazing Transgender Models

In a stunning comeback after a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has redefined its legacy by featuring Alex Consani and Valentina Sampaio as the first transgender models to grace the iconic runway. Their presence marks a significant milestone for the brand, showcasing a commitment to diversity and representation in the fashion industry.

Breaking Barriers and Setting Trends

“I’m so excited. It’s my first ever Victoria’s Secret show,” Consani expressed backstage to Paper Magazine. “I can’t believe I’m here.” Dressed in a striking blue lingerie set complemented by the brand’s signature angel wings, Consani’s debut captivated the audience. Meanwhile, Sampaio stunned in elegant black lingerie paired with fishnet tights and a dramatic bow on her back. “This moment is one I will cherish for a lifetime,” Sampaio told People. “Today, the Victoria’s Secret family has shown the world that being trans is just as exceptional and beautiful as anyone else on that runway.”

The live event, recorded in New York City, featured an impressive lineup of fashion icons, including Tyra Banks, Gigi and Bella Hadid, and Adriana Lima. The show also embraced a diverse range of performers, with Cher, Tyla, and Blackpink’s Lisa lighting up the stage for the first time in an all-female lineup. This refreshing approach signals a decisive shift for Victoria’s Secret, moving away from its previous image.

Addressing Past Controversies

The brand’s evolution comes after a turbulent period marked by backlash against its previous leadership. In 2018, Ed Razek, the show organizer, controversially stated that “transsexuals” should not be part of the Victoria’s Secret runway, claiming the show was a “fantasy.” Despite later apologies, the brand faced significant challenges, compounded by scandals involving high-profile figures like Jeffrey Epstein, which tarnished its reputation.

Following the cancellation of the show in 2019 due to plunging ratings and public criticism, Victoria’s Secret has returned with “The Tour ‘23,” a hybrid runway show and documentary available on Prime Video. Consani previously appeared in this iteration, while Sampaio began modeling for the Victoria’s Secret sister brand Pink in 2019.

Embracing Change for a Brighter Future

As Victoria’s Secret seeks to reclaim its place in the fashion industry, the inclusion of transgender models represents a broader commitment to diversity and empowerment. This pivotal moment in fashion history not only reflects changing societal norms but also sets a precedent for future shows, reinforcing that beauty comes in all forms.

With this groundbreaking return, Victoria’s Secret is poised to capture a new audience while honoring its legacy and paving the way for future generations of models.
