Case Filed Under Wildlife Protection Act
Kodam Pranay Kumar, known for his culinary content on YouTube, recently posted a video titled ‘Traditional Peacock Curry Recipe’. The video stirred controversy as it appeared to depict the preparation of a dish made from peacock meat, a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The peacock is India’s national bird, and its hunting or killing is strictly prohibited.
Following the video’s viral spread, public outrage ensued, prompting the Forest Department to take action. Forest officials have detained Kumar and are investigating the incident. They have collected blood samples from Kumar and parts of the curry for forensic analysis to confirm if peacock meat was used.
Social Media Outcry and Legal Action
The video, now removed from Kumar’s YouTube channel, sparked intense backlash from animal rights activists and the public. Accusations against Kumar include promoting the illegal killing of India’s national bird. Sircilla Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhil Mahajan confirmed that a case has been registered against Kumar under the relevant sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.
