Starting August 17: Maharashtra's New Scheme Gives Women Rs 3,000 to Kickstart Financial Independence

Maharashtra, August 17, 2024 — The Maharashtra government has officially rolled out the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Behan’ scheme, aimed at enhancing financial independence for women across the state. Announced by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the initiative will provide Rs 1,500 monthly to over 1 crore registered women, starting from August 17, 2024.

Special Trial Run Offers Double Payment

In a special measure to kickstart the program, a trial run will be conducted today. During this trial, beneficiaries will receive Rs 3,000 in their accounts, covering payments for both July and August. Moving forward, Rs 1,500 will be deposited into their accounts every month.

Inspired by Madhya Pradesh’s Successful Model

The scheme is modeled after Madhya Pradesh’s successful Ladli Behna Yojana, introduced by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The Maharashtra government, under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has earmarked Rs 46,000 crore for this program, which was first announced in this year’s budget.

Aiming for Greater Financial Independence

The ‘Mukhyamantri Ladki Behan’ scheme aims to support women in becoming financially self-reliant, providing crucial monthly financial assistance. With over 1 crore women set to benefit, this initiative represents a significant effort by the Maharashtra government to improve economic stability and empowerment for women across the state.
