Oscar Piastri Wins Big Australian driver Oscar Piastri celebrated a stunning win at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday. This victory was not just a personal achievement for the 23-year-old, but also a significant boost for his team, McLaren. McLaren’s win allowed them to overtake Red Bull in the Constructors’ World Championship, a title Red Bull had held for the past two years.
Piastri’s Impressive Performance Piastri, in only his second-ever race win, showed why he is considered a rising star in Formula One. His performance was confident and skillful. Meanwhile, his teammate Lando Norris made a strong comeback, finishing in fourth place after starting in 15th due to a poor qualifying session. Norris managed to finish ahead of Max Verstappen, who ended up in fifth place. Despite this, Norris still trails Verstappen by 59 points in the race for the Drivers’ World Championship, with 206 points still available this season.
Piastri Reflects on His Race “I tried to get ahead at the start but lost some pace when I fell out of DRS,” Piastri said after the race. “After the pit stop, we seemed closer and I felt we had extra grip. I had to make a move because I knew if I didn’t pass early, I wouldn’t get another chance. I took a big risk but managed to hold on for the next 35 laps. It was definitely one of the best races of my career.”
Race Highlights Piastri took the lead about a third of the way through the race by making a decisive move past polesitter Charles Leclerc. Despite a fierce battle between them, Piastri began to pull away in the final laps as Leclerc’s tires started to wear out.
Leclerc finished in second place. However, the race ended under a virtual safety car after a crash involving Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, who both had to retire from the race. Mercedes’ George Russell secured third place due to these incidents.
Leclerc’s Reaction Charles Leclerc praised McLaren and Piastri for their exceptional performance. “It’s a huge shame for Carlos in the last laps, and I hope everyone is okay. It wasn’t a great day for our team,” Leclerc said after the race.
