A 35-year-old labourer, Sunil Siddharth Wakode, tragically lost his life after falling into a manhole in Borivali West, Mumbai. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at around 4:30 pm near Gokhale School on Shimpoli Road.
According to reports, the manhole, part of the BMC sewerage system, was forcibly opened by the owner of Hotel Tarachand, who had hired private contractors for cleaning. During the cleaning process, Wakode fell into the manhole and was declared dead on arrival at Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital.
This marks the third fatal incident of its kind in Mumbai in recent months. Earlier incidents include the deaths of three family members in Ambujwadi and a worker at an under-construction site in April. The fire brigade and municipal staff responded promptly to the scene.
