Tragic Stampede at Baba Siddhnath Temple Claims Lives of 7 Devotees in Bihar

Seven Dead, 35 Injured in Devastating Temple Stampede On Monday, a tragic stampede occurred at the Baba siddhnath temple in Jehanabad, Bihar, resulting in the deaths of seven devotees, including three women. The incident took place in the Vanavar Pahad area of Makhdumpur block during a significant religious event. District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey confirmed that while the situation is currently under control, there is concern that the death toll may rise further.

 Chaos Erupts During Jalabhishek Ritual

The stampede unfolded during the Jalabhishek ritual, a key event on the Monday of Sawan, which drew a large crowd of devotees. The dense congregation led to panic and chaos, with devotees scrambling for safety around 1 a.m. Many individuals were trampled and injured as they tried to escape. Eyewitnesses reported that devotees began to run in all directions, leading to a catastrophic situation where many fell and were severely injured.

Immediate Response and Ongoing Relief Efforts

Following the incident, the administration swiftly dispatched teams to the scene. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway with the assistance of security forces and volunteers stationed at the temple. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Recent Similar Tragedy in Uttar Pradesh

This incident echoes a previous disaster on July 2, when over 120 people died in a stampede during a religious event in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. That tragedy occurred at a gathering for Narayan Hari alias Bhole Baba, which attracted over 50,000 participants. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely and are providing updates as they assess the full impact of this devastating event.
